Deep-Hole Machine Selection and Quotation FAQ
Start with honing, then compare drilling, boring, gun drilling and SRB. The answers summarize Guanghe's existing product information; machine capability and acceptance values remain project-specific.
Can honing start from solid material?
No. Honing is reviewed after a bore exists. Large or highly variable remaining stock, severe bend or position error may require an earlier preparation or correction process.
How much stock allowance is needed for honing?
It depends on the incoming error, material, bore size, length, tool and target result. Provide measurements along the bore, not only one nominal diameter.
What information is needed for a honing quotation?
Send the drawing, material and hardness, incoming and finished bore diameters, honing length, allowance variation, geometry and surface requirements, inspection method and production target.
Can blind, stepped or interrupted bores be honed?
These features need a specific review of tooling, tool overrun, support and abrasive-flow conditions. Show the full section and entry or exit condition in the workpiece drawing.
What is the difference between drilling and boring?
Drilling creates or opens a hole. Boring enlarges or corrects an existing bore. Starting condition, allowance, support and chip evacuation determine whether a project uses one or both operations.
What should I send for a gun drilling machine selection?
Provide material and hardness, hole diameter and depth, entry and exit details, tolerance, straightness and surface requirements, batch size and inspection method. Guidance, high-pressure coolant, filtration, chip path and fixture rigidity are reviewed together.
Should a cylinder tube use SRB or honing?
The incoming tube condition decides. SRB is reviewed for sizing and burnishing compatible cylindrical bores with controlled allowance. Honing is reviewed for controlled geometry correction or a specified final texture. Some parts require boring first.
Do order records or workshop videos prove final machining accuracy?
No. Order records verify ordered configurations and footage verifies only what is visible. Agreed sample conditions, measurement locations, calibrated instruments and signed inspection or acceptance evidence are needed to establish project results.
