Parallel deep hole drilling for repeat production

Multi-Station Gun Drilling Machines Selected by Hole Layout, Fixture Rigidity and Takt

Parallel drilling improves output only when hole position, spacing, tool access, workpiece rigidity, coolant, loading and changeover support the proposed layout.

When a Multi-Station Layout Deserves Review

A dedicated arrangement is considered for repeated parts or hole patterns where simultaneous or parallel drilling may support the production target.

Good starting fit

  • Stable repeat production
  • Repeated holes or parts with a controlled layout
  • Sufficient fixture rigidity and tool access
  • Defined loading method and takt target
  • Coolant and filtration sized for concurrent drilling

Review another layout when

  • Volume is too low for a dedicated fixture
  • Hole spacing causes tool or guide interference
  • Parts or patterns change frequently
  • Rigidity, clamping or coolant distribution is inconsistent
  • Different holes require incompatible cycles

Inputs That Define the Station Layout

Part and hole layout

  1. Drawing, hole count, position, spacing and datums
  2. Diameter, depth, entry/exit and tolerance
  3. Material, hardness, rigidity and clamping surfaces
  4. Parts or holes proposed for parallel processing

Machine and output

  1. Tool and workpiece rotation
  2. Loading, changeover, error-proofing and automation
  3. Coolant distribution, filtration and chip handling
  4. Quantity, takt, shifts and planned variants

This does not establish a standard range for every station count. Spacing, simultaneous loading, coolant, interference, fixture rigidity and takt require project review.

From Part Layout to a Station Concept

1. Map holes and datums

Positions, spacing, depth, tolerance and entry.

2. Test parallel feasibility

Access, interference, rigidity, coolant and chips.

3. Define the concept

Spindles, fixtures, loading, changeover and automation.

4. Validate takt

Tool cycle, handling time, sample and inspection plan.

Buyer-Confirmed ZK2102 Double-Spindle Order Configuration

ORDER CONFIGURATION — NOT DELIVERY OR PERFORMANCE

An anonymized April 2025 India order record documents two spindles and rotation of both tool and workpiece. It does not prove production, shipment, installation, accuracy, cycle time or customer acceptance.

Multi-Station Engineering FAQ

Does adding stations always increase output?

No. Tool cycle, loading, fixture access, coolant capacity, changeover and utilization determine the actual benefit.

What hole-spacing information is required?

Provide the full pattern, datums, minimum spacing, entry surfaces and surrounding features.

Can different hole sizes be processed together?

This requires a cycle, tool, coolant and control review. Different operations may reduce the benefit of parallel processing.

Does the India record prove delivery or accuracy?

No. It verifies a buyer-confirmed ordered configuration only.
